After having a wood fire for years the purchase of this Gas Heater is amazing. Instant heat being fan forced warms the area fast. Living in the hills where winter gets to freezing the convenience of instant heat is wonderful. I also dry my clothes in front of it which is a bonus as there is no flame and safe for children with a child lock. The remote gives me the choice while watching TV to adjust the heat and turn off when going to bed. I highly recommend this heater as it is well worth the high cost that pays for itself in the long run. regards Ann

I have had this gas heater for 5 years now and haven't had a single problem with it. I have a one bedroom split level apartment of 90 square meters and it heats the entire apartment up well. During winter I would have the heater on most days for about 7 to 8 hours. The cost to the gas bill increases about $150 over winter (4 months). Its not too big so isn't a eye sore. It doesn't give off a gas smell like some other heaters. I extremely happy with the Rinnai 25 and not disappointed I spent a bit more money for a better heater.

Great heater with many functions. Versatile and quick to heat up larger areas. We run on economy mode & it gets the job done perfectly. It is sleek looking and efficient. This heater has been the best purchase of heating appliance for us. We struggled with electric element heaters. Rinnai is the one to get the job done.

One of the things that sticks in my mind from when I was a wee lad was my parents had an old 1970's Rinnai gas heater in their old 1970's house, the type where you had to turn a large knob and hold a lever down simultaneously to fire it up (whilst waiting about 20 seconds).
When I went looking for a heater for my family and house, I was surprised to see Rinnai still made them, but I knew straight away they'd be good pieces of gear. Some things don't change.
We bought the Rinnai "Avenger 25" which is a strange name for an appliance such as...
Read more a heater, but on first appearance looked like a quality unit with useful features and we weren't disappointed once we put it to use. It's fan forced, which is great if you're heating a large space, thermostatically controlled so it will shut down once the room reaches your pre-set temperature (just the fan I think?) and the heater has a built in tilt sensor so if you're a clumsy bastard like me and inclined to knock things over, it will shut off if it tips. The control panel also has a lock out feature as well if you have kiddywinks that like to push buttons... If I had to make a criticism, if only for the sake of making a criticism, it would be the appearance of the unit. It looks pretty...utilitarian. I'm sure appearance-wise it would fit right it at the Soviet tank corps, but as a household appliance it looks a little naff. But it's still not enough of a reason to not buy one, or at the very least, consider it when shopping for a heater. We've absolutely thrashed ours, but give it a kick in the guts and it still fires up as it did the very first day. Thanks for the review of your Avenger heater, we are glad to hear it is serving you well. We wish you many more years of heating to come.

Hate it! Heats... and heats... and heats... and heats... utterly stupid design
"Not fully thermostatically controlled" - do NOT buy if you want full temperature control.
We bought this stupid thing to replace our 12 year old Bowin SLE2 which died and which we previously considered almost perfect. The heat output is a little lower but it still warms the place despite not having Plus option. The Control system is fairly simple, though the remote is too simple to be of real value. The over-ride option works well with the two timers, though we would have liked to have had a sleep option as well or instead - there are times...
Read more when you don't want to run all the way to the next timer. Having had the fire for over a week now, however, we have come to HATE it due to the most stupid design feature we have come across in years. You turn it on and set the temperature you want... and it in effect ignores it!! Sure, the fire goes on maximum fan and heat until it gets there but then it just lowers the output and fan speed and continues to pour out the heat whether it needs to or not, and the room gets hotter... and hotter... and hotter! It doesn't turn the flame off, no matter how hot the room gets, it just keeps on pouring out the heat and wasting your gas (actually, now I think of it, that could potentially be a fire risk I would have thought?). So you then have to turn off or override the timer or turn the whole thing off, there goes convenience out the window! What the he** is the point of that!?!? It clearly can detect the room temperature as it displays it and alters the fan speed and burner when it gets there; it can also start and stop the flame as it has automatic timers. So why would you do something so stupid as to put all the necessary components together then make this pig's ear out of them. Clearly Rinnai simply want anyone who wants full thermostatic control to fork out another $400+ in cash for a physically bigger unit, which has more to go wrong (gas and electric components) and uses far more electricity (more costly) rather than coming up with a decent, sensible design for this unit. We've had this thing for just ten days and already loathe it for its stupidity. How anyone could think this a sensible design is beyond me, the design team should hang their heads in shame. Sadly we're stuck with the thing for now until an alternative makes itself known to us. What I do know is that this is the first and last Rinnai product we'll EVER be buying and this thing will be on Gumtree as soon as an alternative can be sourced. Thanks for the review Mike, we are sorry to hear the heater you have purchased is not what you expected. I'm very happy with my Avenger 25 NG, but I can't regulate the temperature. I currently have the setpoint at 21 degrees this morning, but the heater has continued to shoot up to 25 degrees and it is unbearably warm. Is this meant to be thermostatically controlled? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the question Knights Fan, the Avenger 25 heater is not thermostatically controlled so will not shut down when the temperature set is reached, this is a feature on the Avenger 25 plus.
Well I didn't ask enough questions of the salesperson, nor did they highlight this important fact. Can the controller be retrofitted?
Bought this last winter since day one it heats very fast but the smell is terrible made my baby boy sick all winter i have tight chest feeling when its on we dont use anymore, every one says its normal to smell like that I dont agree if i cant bare the smell i dont think my three years old should do, i cleaned the filters many times, another problem is it doesnt stop on set temperature we set it for 21 or so only to find out after that the room temperature us 2 or 3 degrees more than set temp, any advise before throwing this toxic box in the garbage
Thanks for the review Sam, it is definitely not normal for a heater to make you feel sick when it is in use. We would strongly recommend speaking with our technical support line who can troubleshoot ...

With any unflued product there will be an amount of combustion product that will enter the room (which in a flued heater, is drawn out and expelled outside). Heater is one year old and needs its fourth repair. Works for a short period after each repair before emitting a stench that makes it unusable. Suffering through our second cold snap without heat. Trying to get it replaced for the last week. It's freezing and my family is cold. When it goes on the blink it seems to use high levels of gas (which is probably what's filling the house), costing me extra on refills, not to mention the added cost of using little electric heaters to try and stay warm while waiting on repair. Wouldn't buy one again.
Great whilst working very Poor Rinnai Customer Service Warranty
We bought this heater just on five years ago and was great heater, it did a great job warming us up until this year. I had the heater serviced every two years by a reputable gas fitter who until recently was Rinnai agent. This winter our heater failed to start with error code 11 on display, went in for service who were in touch with Rinnai and after three weeks the heater was returned....... unable to be repaired. I then contacted Rinnai for assistance only to be told to pay $175 for the first hour of inspection with another gas fitter and then a decision will be made. They did not have decency to hear me out but rather kept on talking over me by reading out their warranty policy. Now I stuck without a heater in the middle of winter.
Thank you for the review OJJ, we are sorry to hear of the issues you have faced with the servicing of your heater and would like to investigate further for you. You can contact us via private message...

Thanks for the follow up OJJ, we are pleased to hear the technician was able to get the unit up and running again. We wish you many more years of usage with your heater.

We bought this heater 10 days ago. It is ridiculosly easy to install, easy to operate and understand, works fast (which is a delight at 4am when feeding baby), we are heating an open space of 70sq meters and it does the job effortlessly (I was sceptical). However, we live in Quakers Hill which could make a difference to someone in Oberon for instance. It is a modern design, very pleasing on the eye, not bulky but quite compact for what it does. Light in weight and the three metre hose makes it easy to manouver around if needed. The only reason I give it a 4 star is the fact that we are still to see the gas bill and find out if it is economical enough to be a five star product.
Thanks for the review, we are glad to hear the heater is exceeding your expectations with the area it is heating. We wish you many more years of usage.

It is our first heater of this type. Easily keeps entire house warm and then keeping it there - just turn it on and I walk away from it. Love setting the timers so that we can come home to a home to a warm house in the evenings and having it come on in the morning to encourage you out of bed!
Only get caught out from time to time with aerosols like fly spray can make it smell of fumes. Some are worse then others, but we just turn it off for 5 min if we spray. Perhaps Rinnai could provide feedback on this? It does not smell of fumes other than this
Thanks for the review Deon. You are correct with the aerosol sprays. With this kind of convector heater any strong smells are drawn into heater and when they are expelled the heating process can chang...
Read moree the smell dramatically. Fly sprays and cleaning sprays are usually the worse for this issue but your course of action is the correct method to stop these incidents.- 3 reviews

We have a large open home and this particular heater is perfect, we find the timer program brilliant, very nice to set and get up to a nice warm home in the mornings, haven't had a chance to see what the cost of running will be as it is too early as we haven't used long enough but will soon know as June and July come.
Thanks for the review Barry, we are very happy to hear the heater is serving you well. We wish you many more warm mornings to come.

I upgraded from a Granada and now I' m buying a bottle of gas every two weeks if I'm lucky, so much for the economy rating ...im better off with the Granada at least a bottle would last me 5 weeks . its warm and toasty and also fills the house with heaps of gas emissions :(
Thanks for your review Trish, all unflued heaters will produce combustion products and we do recommend ensuring there is suitable ventilation in the area the heater is being used. Further information...

Being fed up with the cost of running a ducted cooling/heating system I was looking for some way of heating my open plan living/dining/kitchen area (estimated area about 50 sqm) this winter. I had initially been thinking of a large electric panel heater, but the largest I could find would only heat a room area of around 25 sqm, and the cost of running it would also be high. I briefly thought about gas heating, but was a little worried about emissions and reading some reviews was further put off by reports of smells. In the end I bit the bullet ...
Read moreand decided that this heater was probably the only thing that could heat the space (based on the marketing claims), at a reasonable running cost and with the features I was looking for (specifically a dual timer). I can report that the heater is more than capable of heating the room space and have not noticed any unpleasant smells coming from the unit. The dual timer works exactly as planned, automatically turning the unit on in the morning so that the room is warmed up for when my kids get up, and then turned off automatically when they all leave for school. The process is repeated in the evenings when the sun goes down. It was also very simple to set up, just plug in to the gas bayonet and electric socket, set the clock and the timers (which was extremely simple compared to some timers I have had to set in the past), and it is ready to start heating the room. I would recommend this to anyone needing to heat a large room space and not wanting the high running costs of a ducted heating system.Thank you for your review Baggie 67, we are please to hear how much you are enjoying the heater. We wish you many more warm winters.
Heating great & 2 timers is a welcomed feature. Heats a large open area and makes a huge difference. Would be 5* if it regulated the room temperature, the control panel seems to heat beyond the required temperature setting which is a little frustrating. Best we would find very happy!

This products warns up the house in no time and seems to do it with ease. We are heating around 65MSQ and it works well. We have noticed the slightest of smells but nothing that has bothered us too much.
Happy to recommend this product to people with a large area to heat.
Thank you for your review Tom C, we are glad to hear that you are enjoying your new Avenger heater.
We have a average size loungeroom (50sqm) which where the heater is located. All I can is AMAZING the loungeroom heats up within minutes. We left it on all night last winter with the 2kw fan didn't not use the ducted aircon once. Purchasing this heater may not be cheap (costed us $1400 at binglee) but it certainly almost cut our power bills by 50%. HIGHLY recommended.
