Hi,
The machine works fine when I make a coffee and then press the steamer button to froth the milk. However after I use the steamer for the milk, I am unable to make another coffee as the two espressos frantically blink. I can only make another coffee unless I turn the machine off and on again.
Is this a fault in the machine as I have only had it 4 weeks?

Hi Victor - refer to page 7 of the manual under cleaning and care - how to cool down the boiler - this should answer your query.

We received this machine for Christmas.2019. We love it, however since we started using it the orange light, indicating that the machine needs descaling has come on 4 times (today is 1 April 2020). I have completed the descaling process 3 times, once with descaling solution about a month ago. The light came on again today. Can someone please tell me if there could be a problem or is this common. We average about 5 coffees a day. Thank you

I have the same problem and can’t find anything anywhere that may have the answer. Iv only had mine for 4 weeks

Hi Natalie,
You will need to adjust the water hardness to soft and that will extend the time you will have to descale. Please refer to your instruction manual for further information.

My milk is always so bubbly when I steam it with the machine. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I’ve tried all of the hints and tips. I’m after that glossy smooth finish. I’m wondering if the wand is the issue? Is it too short and wide?

Hi,
I also have the issue of very slow flow through the grouphead. The coffee trickles out taking around 2 mins to fill half an espresso cup. Could the filter be blocked? I have descaled the machine and all the filters. Many thanks

Why is the filter arm on my coffee machine so tight? Neither myself or my husband can get it into the machine easily - we have to hold the entire machine down firmly and even then it's hard to get the filter arm attached and the machine moves all over the place in the process.
It's also impossible to attach the filter arm with the 2 cup filter inserted when it's filled with 2 level scoops of coffee. Second machine to have this problem - be honest, is there a batch with a manufacturing fault around?

Hi Jas,
Thanks for your enquiry. Try filling the filter a little less with ground coffee. The coffee should not be filled past the rim.
Hope this helps

Smeg
Thanks for replying. It’s tight even before any coffee goes in and then impossible with coffee filled 3-4mm below the rim.

My Smeg 50's style coffee maker is new, just a week old and this morning as soon as drip started, a small red light began to flash during the brew.
I did forget to add the coffee to the filter, is this why ?

Hi there
My Smeg coffee machine is around 2 years old
The steam button regularly turns orange & I descale accordingly. However this time the steam button is flashing orange? I can’t seem to get past it, for example pressing the steam button for 10 seconds is not activating descaling as it normally does. The steam wand won’t work at all while it’s flashing, however the espresso does still pour.
Thanks in advance Nicola

I just bought this machine, but have not been able to use the filter in the wand as the filter does not drop into the wand - just sits above it and then the wand will not slide into place - is there some way I should be putting the wand in place with the filter or is the filter more of a measuring tool...confused?

I just figured it out - so disregard question...the only thing I am finding frustrating is not be able to do one right after the other without waiting for cool down - if I have guests it will take more time to get their espresso ready then to make a whole pot of coffee and breakfast.
You know how the baristas knock the used coffee out. I use Breville The Knock Box for that. No need to touch the hot wand.In fact a hot wand is a good thing for making better coffee...

What is the internal parts of Smeg espresso machine made of?
4 answers
I have no idea. Have not pulled it apart. Quite heavy though.

The parts that are in contact with the water are made from several different materials . Water tank is a SAN Plastic, The hoses a PTFE Plastic and the thermoblock is Stainless Steel.
When you talk about the thermonlock do you mean the group head? Is there chrome plating on any internal part? Thanks

Hi. My Smeg coffee machine frother isn’t working properly. It froths for 10 seconds if that. The milk is still really cold and not frothed at all. I’ve done the setting thing to adjust the temperature but this has had no effect. Is there anything I can do?
