Cafe Series Espresso EM7000 (Stainless)

Hi there, my Sunbeam Cafe Series Espresso machine is only a couple of months old and the pressure gauge is not working when ever I extract a shot of coffee. I have tried different grinds of coffee and even different tamper pressures as well and it doesn’t seem to resolve it. Not sure what to do next.

If it's not working at all, at that age I'd take it back for a warranty fix.
If it's just not registering a very high pressure try a finer grind and maybe up the dose. Are you using pre-ground, or grinding as needed? Because the EM7000 wants a finer grind than anything I've seen being sold.

Hi Sally C,
You may need to contact the manufacturer for a replacement part, although it sounds like the pressure has gone. Do you do regular cleaning and descaling?

nick.ward121
nick.ward121

Dripping sounds like the seal at the ball joint has failed. You might be looking at replacing the whole steam arm (https://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=81834_81835_95417&products_id=1736072) as no one seems to sell the ball joint on its own, but unless you're feeling very confident that's a replacement you might want to take it to a repairer to install anyway. The EM7000's steam arm is slightly more complicated than most because of the temperature sensor and I haven't any personal experience with how easily it can be user repaired.

The middle of my group head has fallen out. How do i fix it?

2 answers

nick.ward121

There is a screw through the middle that holds that in place. If you can find the screw all you need to do is screw it back in, making that that you put the shower screen back in the correct way up. But if it fell out some time ago and the shower screen has only just worked its way loose you can get a replacement easily enough. Just get a "Shower Head Plate and Screw" (https://www.appliancesupplies.com.au/part/217102-w0228213/em7000, or https://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=81834_81835_95417&products_id=1736085)

Hi Donna,
It may be that a grain of coffee has got into the solenoid and is keeping it open. Try flushing the machine through with water only and this may help.\

With my 10mth old the hot water control knob has fallen off how do I refit that knob?

2 answers

nick.ward121

If you line it up with the slot (which will probably be having the grip tab pointing upwards to the "off" position, unless it came off during use and is still switched on) and push it firmly back in it pops straight back and locks in. If it doesn't, the plastic tabs on the back of the knob may be broken.
In that case, you'll need a new hot water knob. The steam and hot water knobs are interchangeable so either a steam or hot water knob will do. Quickest fix is to call your local service agent and ask if they have stock. Otherwise there are a few online spare parts shops with it listed.

The rescaling cycle in our EM 7000 doesn’t work. I follow the instructions in the manual an press th 1 cup button after the 4 beeps but water then continually runs through the group head without any pauses. The instructions say to leave the steam wand turned on during de scaling but all this does is to continually blast steam out from the wand?

Our EM7000 has a continuous stream of water running into the drip tray from the overflow at the left rear of the drip tray. It happens whenever we choose the 1 or 2 cup function, seems to be fine when steaming. Any ideas what would cause this excessive overflow into the drip tray?

Have you turned the water wand nozzle on the right side of the machine to off? Sometimes Ive knocked it and it releases water, Then I realise what Ive done

Joe M
Joe M

Water wand is definitely off.
If you don't use the water wand, coffee can be expressed single or double, no problem.
If you use the water wand, you cannot use the espresso functions thereafter.
If you do use them water come out the water wand, nothing out of the group head.

Hi, I have a repeating issue when I run the cleaning cycle with the tablet in the group head. Dirty water leaks out from underneath the machine and the container I place under the group head to catch the water from the cleaning cycle hardly fills, maybe 1cm deep max. What's happening here please!

Sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi Vic. What you are describing is perfectly normal for the group head cleaning cycle. Minimal water should come out through the group head as the majority of the water gets flushed back through the group head and is expelled into the drip tray through the dump valve. So at the end of the cycle, your drip tray should be pretty full with water and there shouldn't be much in the container you have under the group head.

Have an EM7000 machine and for some reason the cleaning cycle won't start. It turns on to make coffee so its not a power issue - any ideas?

1 answer
Sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi Casmas. To activate the cleaning cycle you must start with the machine plugged in but unit turned off. Press and hold the 1 cup and 2 cup buttons simultaneously. Whilst still holding these buttons, press the power button as if your turning the unit on.

All of this steps are available on page 22 of the instruction booklet.

Hi. We've had our machine for a few years now, and its been working beautifully, however, yesterday when making a coffee, the double filter basket 'stuck' to the shower screen and we can't get it unstuck. Any ideas as to why this happened and importantly, how we fix it?

Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi David. I have never heard of this happening before. Is it stuck in a way that you may be able to get a screw driver in to wedge it out or do you believe it has welded on in some way? If you can't ease it off yourself, it may be best to visit an authorized Sunbeam service agent. There is a comprehensive list of all service agents on the Sunbeam website under the customer support tab.

It only has a single jet. It heats and froths fine though it is super important to clean immediately after EVERY use.

Sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi Rick! The EM7000 comes with Twin Thermoblock technology which will allow you to steam your milk simultaneously to performing the coffee extraction. The thermoblock also ensures that the steam function comes to temperature a lot quicker than machines that use a boiler system. The steam wand also has an inbuilt thermometer so you know the precise time that your milk has reached the recommended temperature of 65° ensuring a more consistent result when frothing/steaming. Hope this helps!!

Hi, we have had our EM7000 (in NZ) for nearly 2 months. Initially i couldnt get any consistent pressure - either too high or too low. Now for the last 2 weeks we have no pressure at all - which makes for terrible coffee :-( Has anyone else experienced this? Am i doing something wrong or is it a fault with the machine. We loved the previous model which we had for 3 years but right now i am regretting replacing it with the EM7000. Help anyone?

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I would say the seal in the group head needs replacing, that's the rubber seal behind the shower screen, easy to replace.
Hope this helps.

I would give it a good clean around the seal first, just in case there are grounds around it, but agree that if this does not fix it then the rubber seal is probably gone. Very easy to replace.

Hi. Had my EM7000 for a couple of months. Makes great coffee (once I refined the grind and tamping). However the 'puck' is sticking to the 'shower head' when I remove the basket. I am leaving about 5mm below the top of the basket after tamping. The basket handle moves well past the middle point of the machine, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I would recommend you fill to about 2mm from the top of the group handle after tamping, that should stop the coffee grounds from sticking to the shower head.

PHM

I remedy this problem by putting the used milk jug underneath and the puck comes away easily with the usual flush that the machine needs to clean out any stubborn grounds on the shower head.

Hi I have a Sunbeam EM 7000 . I have had it for three years now. In September last year it started having problems where it would suddenly not express the coffee when the group handle is fitted. The first time I thought maybe the filters might be blocked and I cleaned everything just to make sure. So I took it back thinking it was still under warranty. No with 12 month product warranty and 2 year Concierge warranty. No Concierge warranty started at time of purchase. So it was sent to a repairer. It did the problem but then not again so they said if it causes any more problems bring it back. So a few months later it happened again So after being told yes it is covered then no it is covered back to repairs again. Still no solution. So home again and immediately back again. Does anyone know what would be the problem as I just want to make coffee and this is VERY Frustrating.
