The connection is either down or the speed is just 300kbps on average.
The internet speed is very poor. The average speed is around 200 to 300 kbps.
Lately there have been lot of connection drops.

Fast processing
I migrated to MATE after experiencing frequent offline from my previous ISP. MATE processing is straight forward and they managed to connect my internet and telephone service even before the termination date of the previous ISP.

Good service
I've used Mate for my home internet connection, for a year now, and I'm happy.
We do have occasional connection interruptions (seconds or minutes, few times a day) but it doesn't seriously get in the way (and I'm not sure it's the IPS's fault either).
I was particularly impressed by the service - no "tie in contract", plus they were very helpful with the initial setup, we had some misunderstanding with Telstra records of the previous tenants, and it was even more confusing given that we were new to the country, but the service representative was very patient and helpful. It's also easy to get a phone reply.

Fast and friendly service
Our experience has been very satisfying. For a start we always talk to a human when we ring; waiting times for telephone support are short. internet speed is as fast as we expected. No nasty surprises or slow-down penalties. The landline conditions are also great. Mates is good value for money and excellent service.

No problems
Internet might drop out for 30 seconds or so once every few hours on some days, but it's barely noticeable (hit refresh a couple of times and it's back). No issues with dealing with them - but I haven't really NEEDED to deal with them because there have been no problems needing solving.

Good for the price
Had a few dropouts. A few days when service was in and out. Service is slow some days, requires a modem restart to get it right. Online gaming has been affected sometimes by it. Not a super fast speed generally but does the job.

Fantastic Service
The team at Mate Communicate are fantastic. The service was excellent, never had one problem (unlike previous provider) and will certainly reconnect when I come back for my 6 monthly holiday. Having no lock in and a great Australian support team is great.

1. Their company is a fraudulent fake company, and there is no real technical support at all.
The installation and technical support are all telstra. If any problems arise, they will all be pushed to telstra.
2. 60 installation fee! There is no installation fee on the surface, but it will be deducted in the second month.

Very happy
Chose mate because of it’s product review rating. Had been with IPrimus for 10 years and just couldn’t take it anymore. Although it was a bit of a complicated transfer Mate kept us informed every step of the way. I could not fault their communication. 11 months later am still very happy. Great speed. Lots of data. Could not believe dealing with an internet provider could go so smoothly.

Mostly good though have occasional dropouts mostly around 9-11 pm in the area that I stay (Sydney CBD). I would recommend as they have unlimited for $50 for initial 6 months and then $60 per month

Impressed with the service and no dramas
Really quite fast and no hassle to connect. Internet is current streaming several things at the same time and pretty happy to have it connected in one business day. My old provider would have taken longer and wanted to charge me more.

I decided to move to Mate from iinNet because of all the great reviews here. If you're reading this don't do what I did! Stay with whatever terrible service provider you're with because Mate will be worse! Today is day 11 that I haven't had the internet. Eleven days ago they sent me an sms saying 'Your ADSL service is now active. Refer to your activation email...' I didn't read the rest of the message as like most people I was really busy with work and as iiNet were due to take money from my account the next day and they'd told me I must call ...Read more
them once I'd moved to cancel my account with them, that's exactly what I did. Well apparently because of that, there's no saying when I'll be connected again. (They said 5 - 10 days but obviously that's not happened.) Mate have told me I have to pay $59 to reconnect, buy a new modem (although now they seem to have changed their minds about that but who knows) possibly pay $150 to Telstra and on and on it goes. They now say there's a fault (which didn't exist when I was with iiNet for the past 18 or so years) and Telstra are investigating. I would have an answer supposedly by COB two days ago. I still don't have any service. I work from home and all they can say is, 'Yes it's hard not having the internet.'2 comments

We can confirm that you signed up for an ADSL bundle plan with our sales team on 25/09/2018 and requested to churn an existing service from iiNet. Your order was processed, and on two occasions you were emailed information that clearly stated the following in bold text: "IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are churning/transferring your current ADSL service from another provider, DO NOT CANCEL THE SERVICE WITH YOUR PREVIOUS PROVIDER. Cancelling your previous service prematurely will result in issues transferring the connection." You then advised that you contacted iiNet and cancelled your service, resulting in your phone line being disconnected as this was still in the churn/transfer stage. On your request then reactivated a new phone number for you, and this is now active and we can see that there is no dial tone on the new phone line. Our support team has raised a fault with Telstra to rectify this. We can assure you we are not in the business of excuses, however, at the end of the day Telstra owns the infrastructure and we have to follow their process to rectify any issues. Think twice before getting HORRIBLE MATE
It's been a month I've swiched to MATE from TPG for a better service & connection. But since day one I'm not getting even a proper connection. My new connection has a very poor connectivity, resulting worst latency. Several times I've called MATE with no luck. All they are saying that my area doesn't support ADSL2+ which may be the cause for slower speed. But how come I never had such poor latency issue with TPG before. As per MATE, (even with ADSL poor speed) I am supposed to get at least 5mbps but in reality most of the time all my videos are...Read more
buffering for poor latency (more that 300ms). Everyday I am having 10/15 dropouts and hardly getting 1Mbps Download and 0.30Mbps Upload. When I asked MATE to send someone to re-check the connectivity that I've paid for during the new connection; they've replyed that I need to pay for any visit at this point. My question is Why should I pay again if the service wasn't provided as promised. I've even bought $150 hi-speed modem from MATE. If the problem is with connectivity, MATE should solve it. I’m extremely disappointed with the service I’m getting. And they are asking for money again to fix the issues are obnoxious. Great when it works, alas this is not often enough
When it works it's great.
However, too often for my liking, it takes too long to connect to a website and often times out. (site can't be reached because DNS server can't be reached). I'm not sure if this is congestion but even so, I'm not happy about it.
Lucky we have a reliable backup with Telstra 4G.
This review, for example, has taken over 20 minutes to write as I'm trying to find an email in my mail account that contains the invoice proof of purchase I need to upload.
