Bad workmanship and mixed review customer service
Hi guys,
Please be very careful when selecting Metricon to build your house especially their lackluster customer service and build quality. They do not like to take responsibility for the defects that they have done.
The build quality is around 6/10 but there are quite a few issues that we have noticed when after we moved in.
1) We moved in on February 2017. We were given the 90 days maintenance service to fix things. The list were expired on May and they were supposed to come out after that to fix everything up. However, it's November...Read more
now and still not everything have been rectified. E.g. Raised carpet, small holes on the ceiling, torn flyscreen, broken kitchen light and etc. All of these were happened prior to handover and they failed to pick this errors up. The building manager then told me to put those items in during our handover day so they could be fixed after 90 days. Since then, I have emailed over and over and over again to the support team which they said they will follow up but it is all obviously an empty promise. 2) Slab overflow (encroachment) - https://imgur.com/a/dBRri Here is a link to some photos to show you how bad the defect and overflow. So, my garage is built on boundary and it looks all good at the beginning. However, when my right hand neighbour has decided to build by excavating to get a retaining wall going, they came to me to notify me about the slab overflow. Apparently, that is considered as an encroachment into my neighbour's land even in the legal term (be it underground footing or not). Therefore, I went and talk to a Metricon building manager, [name removed] who is responsible for my case. What do you know! [Name Removed] called me back and told me that is a common practice and it's the neighbour's reponsibility to fix my encroachment? I was like what?!! I don't think it is my neighbour or my responsibility to rectify this since I have paid Metricon to do a good job in accordance to the contract. A building inspector that I have spoken to was saying the same thing as well and he is prepared to write a report about this. Even the building compliance officer at my local district council has called me up to ask Metricon to fix this encroachment. From what I have gathered on concrete slab pouring on boundary, the concrete specialist should have put a metal sheet prior to slab pouring in the first place to prevent this encroachment. Metricon flat out refused to rectify this issue which is a very big fail on their behalf. I am at loss of word.3 comments

Do not use Metricon
18 months from signing the contract to completion!
Still waiting (14 months) for liquidated damages due to late completion! Sent numerous emails but get no response??
Very bad workmanship! Many defects both internal and external, it took many months to have most rectified. The rest eg bad brickwork we have to live!!!
The company doesn't know what customer service or support is!! Numerous staff changes was always the excuse!
Please speak to other clients who have built with this company before you sign any contracts!!

My wife and I would both like to thank you for your outstanding customer service and support. Since building with Metricon nearly 5 years ago, we have had the usual small warranty problems. You and your team have been fantastic in coming up with a fair and reasonable resolutions for every problem.

Very ordinary quality and terrible customer service
I have built my house recently with Metricon. Based on what I had heard, I was so happy at the beginning, to choose them. But, everything turned in a wrong direction.
Very irrespective, impolite and unprofessional team, from sales to maintenance. Poor customer service.
Terrible management system.
I just want to share my experience with you.
I am so disappointed and won't recommend them to anyone.

Fantastic Metricon home
We have had the best experience with Metricon. From the salesperson to all the customer service consultants and then our journey with [name removed]. As a supervisor we could not ask for any more from [name removed], he was honest, helpful and his level of service to both of us was outstanding. We would build again tomorrow already!! Disappointing Cracked tiling
My house was completed in September 2015. The engineer's report indicated that my soil was P class I therefore paid extra for deeper footings. 18 months down the track the tiling in my ensuite bathroom has cracks in them. Metricon have informed that they can no longer help me. I paid a premium for the luxury package and my footings on their engineers report you therefore expect quality finishings which last longer than 18 months. Very disappointed.

Yes they did communicate but the point of the matter is - I paid extra for extra footings I wouldn't of expected the tilings to crack after 18 months are the tiles of not good quality or is it the footings ?

Love where you live - We do.
We've been in our house now 2.5 years and it is now the time to give an actual review having lived in it. The build process was good, great communication with our site manager who was fantastic. Took the time to accommodate us, to catch up and provided valuable input along the way. We hired a private inspector being our first build and he could not fault the workmanship. rest. We did not have to wait the 90 day mark to get our issues resolved as was the case with other builders our friends dealt with. We all built at the same time. Mericon was prompt and fixed the issues. The site manager, was a god send and worked thru with us at that stage as well. Came our 90 day mark and most things on the list were well taken care of meaning we could enjoy the house without further worries. Now, about 18 months later, we had an issue with a pop up drain. Rang Metricon, to see if there was anything covered - trying our luck; and to our surprise, they sent someone to fix the issue even though it was not a warranty item. They did not want to leave a bad impression, Well they haven't. In conclusion, nice house, great communication with the site manager and excellent after service. By taking the headaches away that so many new builds come with, Metricon has delivered beyond expectations. We've decided to build again and no surprise, our first point of contact will be Metricon.1 comment

After I chose Metricon to build my house, all my friends said that I chose the right company. The outcome was beautiful I'm really pleased. We really love where we live!
We had an excellent experience with Metricon. Whilst the administrative process leading to the build was lengthy and delayed due to the high volume of work on the go, close attention was paid to detail. When we got to site the project ran extremely smoothly - there were trades on site every day. Our site supervisor was excellent and maintained an outstanding level of communication.

Our site supervisor took all of this in his stride and nothing was too hard. He was extremely professional and easy to work with. Our experience with Metricon truly got better as the process went on. I would go so far as to request this exact site supervisor again if I was in a position to build with Metricon in future. Our build was a tricky one. we had immense trouble with a neighbour which consequently led to us selling our block and buying another block. The whole experience was horrible for us but the Metricon team supported us to quickly transfer our house plans to our newly purchased block. The transition was seamless and they worked tirelessly to ensure that we wouldn't lose unnecessary time, so we could get our build started. As the process was so long from our first contract sign to the scrape of the land, we did have some disjointed support from our sales rep and customer service officer. Luckily, [Name Removed] stepped in and made it her business to help us through the process of selection, variations and dealing with the many unknown factors of building. Good work but not as good as expected
The preparation stage was a bit chaos. Both Metricon and the broker (sitting with Metricon) were putting wrong data in all sorts of documents, e.g. wrong name of purchaser, wrong number of the land lot, wrong contact. It wasted a lot time and effect of me to correct all the details with Metricon, broker and bank.

ck during the building process. At least staffs were friendly, and the building plan was followed, no extra fee. In September, the house was handed over to me. Then the story began.... On the handover day, I found hot water was not available anywhere in the house. It turned out that half of the house had faulty power points, and external hot water unit used one of the faulty power sockets. Metricon sent electrician to fix this immediately but after all this was a bad sign. And things continued... Uneven kitchen bench joinery, scratches on sliding door glass, faulty network cable point, leaking shower enclosure, cracking door frame, frequently falling mainhole cover... After almost 6 months, the issues were not all fixed. The good thing is that Metricon acknowledged the issues. The problem seems to be they use unreliable sub-contractors. I may have expected too much from Metricon as they are listed as top 1 builder in OZ. The house overall is OK now, and the remaining issues are not so critical. If I am going to build another house, I would probably still go with Metricon, but will pay more attention on quality control of everything.2 comments

We love our new home
We started looking at display homes from various builders a couple of years ago. Metricon design and standard of finish stood out from the start and we settled on the Mantra with a few modifications to suit our needs. The staff could not have been more helpful and easy to deal with all the way through the process. We moved in 3 weeks ago and are very happy with our beautiful new home. Our site supervisor [Name Removed] did a great job in keeping us in the loop and seamlessly sorting out any issues as they came up. The final product is the home we dreamed of. Thank you Metricon.

This is our first home. We were awestruck 5 years ago after inspecting a Metricon home and never thought we could afford to build with Metricon then. A very Pleasant and Professional Experience! Loved it!
We moved in to our brand new home in June 2016. We had a very pleasant experience overall, right from the very first step when I walked in to their office in Fullarton, Adelaide. [Names Removed] (Financing Broker, HomeCorp) made it pretty easy for me, guided me to make informed decisions and did not make me feel like I was bothering them. I had a ton of questions as this was my first building experience, as a single mum of three.
They are not the cheapest builders, as they told me. But they deliver quality!

was a bliss to deal with. He was available when I needed to speak with him and he never cancelled out "progress meetings" at the site. In fact, he was always earlier than me. The handover time had been tentatively put to July, but he said he would see if he can deliver earlier than that. He handed over the house early June, I had an 8-day old baby, and I had just turned 40 in May. So it was beautiful things happening all round. Although there was a slight mishap with some money that had to be paid on the day (some $1,300), which I was not expecting, I was thankful it was not an outrageous amount and was able to source for it immediately. Came down to miscommunication between myself and the Bank (Bank SA). It's a shame [Name Removed] is no longer with the company. Wishing him the very best. He is an asset. Once we moved in, some maintenance was carried out after the 90-day period they give you to log in any issues. The Range-hood was very noisy and has had some repairs by both Metricon and the suppliers. It's still pending to be replaced but it's sort of usable, just very noisy (level 3). Hopefully it doesn't get swept under the carpet. Unfortunately, I choose the wrong/lowest quality of carpet. Or so I was told. It has stretched out in some areas of the house and it looks seriously worn-out. Metricon organized for Carpet Call to re-stretch but they advised I have to remove all the furniture in the room before they can do the job. Excellent! Just what I needed. The bed was built inside the room, but now I have to organize/pay manpower to dismantle it, then re-assemble it once they are done re-stretching. I am not sure why it's my problem when someone clearly did not do their job properly to start with. So, am stuck with a very unpleasant-looking carpet in one of the bedrooms. I now put a rug to cover the area..hopefully it gets sorted out one way or the other. I have dealt with [Names Removed] and they have been very pleasant in handling my issues in the house. Loving our new home!
It has been just over 30 days since handover of our house and despite a few construction hiccups and having handover happen over Christmas, so getting in contact with the right people was difficult but our site supervisor has been great! The house is beautiful, the build time was extremely quick but very thorough and their finishes are immaculate/perfect! Hi there,
I bought an old house got it demolished and have two blocks now, I already initiated with a bulilder who made the drawings (two houses)and got them approved by the council in 7 months .
If I have to change the builder can I still use those drownings and approval or they are that builder’s property & I have to get new drawings and approval with new builder.
Would be really thank full is answered
