Archer Gas Log Fires

Hi, I have an older free standing Archer model (possibly FS100). Last winter we had renovations to build a new deck in the area behind the wall where the heater is located and we changed the fluing from a straight through the wall arrangement to a through the ceiling arrangement. The ceilings are quite high (no cavity) and the flue is close to the 5.1m limit.

We also had a new water pump installed in the humidifier unit at about the same time.

The heater seemed to operate effectively for a couple of months including the pump as we routinely heard the hiss as water was pumped to the evaporation plate. However, one evening when turning the heater off I found a significant pool of water on the floor. Unfortunately we can't recall whether we heard the hiss of water from the humidifier that evening as after a while these types of noises become part of the background and while you might notice them happening you rarely notice that they aren't happening.

Is it likely that the problem has been caused by a failure of the humidifier pump or could there also be complications with the flue? There is one clear difference with our flue installation - due to the lack of a ceiling cavity there isn't a "bend" of the flue in the ceiling cavity using two 45 degree joins as per the installation instructions.

We live on the south coast of NSW and there is no authorised rep in the area, nor will any gas heater company look at the heater. Keen to see if we can get this fixed as it has been a very good heater and replacement cost is significant. If you know of anyone in the Nowra area that can assist I would be grateful.

Front burner almost went out (small blue flame near the jets only), back burner flame was different (solid orange, no flickering) & strong chemical smell coming from it. Now that it’s cold, the glass is completely cover in thick black soot. Have cleaned glass, logs have not moved & we are not out of gas.

Hi we had our Archer gas heater model IS760 installed yesterday it looks beautiful and heats wonderfully but the noise the fan makes is very loud? One of the reasons we replaced our previous heater was because of the loud fan . Whenwe observed our chosen heater at your showroom the heater was very pleasingly quiet, any ideas as to why it is so loud would love to have this rectified ASAP.

you probably need to adjust the position of your thermistor and check your gas pressure you might be able to change your conv fan to something different or smaller

Most of these types of gas log fire heaters have three types of heat source. They are: flame only, stones, or logs....I have a combination of stones and logs, and in my opinion, it is better to have the flame heat up (to red hot) some logs or stones, rather than rely on the heat from the flame only (think of the old style cast iron kitchen stoves, but in saying that, I'm no scientist).....have a chat with ARCHER - you might still be able to change what they call the "log set".

Aurora

need to check gas pressure, burner position and log positions they are adjustable and will have an effect on the way the heater burns and what the flames look like.........

We have a Model FS100 set into the wall. Its approx. 12years old. Not often used.
We tried to start it recently, but to no avail. We switched it on at the wall, then both switches on the front of the unit. The lights come on, but the 'fire' doesn't start. What could we do for this? Do you do service calls? thank You, Patricia

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately it took a long time(2 months) for you to reply and we had to get someone to have a look at it before then. The fan needed a bit of adjusting. I gather they are excellent heaters but when something goes wrong the supplier doesnt want to know about it.

Archer Gas 300 Series

HI.. My gas log heater remote control keeps playing up so decided to remove the remote control and place back in manual operation.Looking at the manual to place back in manual operation you remove the battery operated receiver unit from the heater which also removes the wiring loom to the red light and reintall the links which were left in the heater in case you wanted to return the heater to manual operation. . After reinstalling the 3 piece links that can only go one way the heater does not work anymore and worse still wont work if I put it back as was..Previously when you turned the 240 v ac power on the unit made a noise like a relay or something like that closing now just a slight hum of the transformer Front panel led, only light up from the batteries in the receiver not from the heater .If the 240ac power is turned off the front panel led per the batteries still shows led power on. Any help please? Regards Greg

Just adding a bit more info. My mistake looks to be 100 series with electronic control not a 300, We only moved in a couple of months ago and only recently found the instructions to the heater when we realised the remote was not working..Upon inspection at the heater found the receiver with four badly corroded AA batteries.which in turn had damaged the battery contacts.I suspect previous owners had not changed them for years. My thought was after reading the instructions on how to attach the remote control in the first place by removing the three links was to remove the damaged reciver even though it had a toggle switch to bypass the remote and reinstate the three links to put back as exiting before the remote was installed. As stated before that the links provided can only go one way on the pins so are completely puzzled by the end result..In the end cleaned the receiver and contacts up as best I could and placed back in wih new batteries .240v power on with no led power on light on front panl . With batteries in and reciever in remote power led light comes on even if 240v power is off, Heater does not work and are the batteries back feeding the system? Any help appreciated. regards Greg

Ive sent you another message. I didnt provide enough detail last time. Im getting a sooty veil of carbon forming on the rear burner( between the igniter and the frame below.) This earths out the igniter and stops it from relighting. After cleaning, away it goes again. Will a decrease in gas pressure solve this issue or is there a mixture adjustment or other mechanical solution that you can recommend. Regards, Geoff
