Does anyone know how's Aussie broadband NBN speed in Blacktown NSW.
Is it consistent?.
Nick K.asked
I am about to Sign up with Aussie Broadband on a 50/20 plan. I am on FTTN. Anyone already with Aussie Broadband on FTTN with 50/20 plan?? If yes how is the speed that you are getting during peak hours (via Speedtest.net/Speakeasy.net)?
Would you recommend Aussie & this plan. I am in Hillside 3037 Victoria
Thanks
Nick

Hey Nick. It depends on the quality of your copper wiring to the node and how far you are from that node. For example: I am 1.2km from the node and the quality of the copper is terrible. My maximum possible speed is 37mbps but it proved to be too unstable to use so I went back down to 25/5. :'(
Most modems can tell you what your maximum connection speed is to the node if you log in and check the advanced connection summary settings.
AussieBB have put their hand up and state they will NEVER allow their service to be affected by speed issues, even during peak times. But the internet in general is about 5mbps slower than usual right now with so many people at home.
I would highly recommend NOT using Speedtest.net as they promote services from providers, including Foxtel, Optus, etc so the tests are not reliable as they may be giving you false readings to try and sell you a plan with someone else.
Use Aussie's own speed test here: http://speed.aussiebroadband.com.au/. Or https://www.ozspeedtest.com.

Hi Nick, FTTN, is really dependent on your distance from the node. We will send you a test to let you know your line capabilities after sign up. You can also run the line test in our app after sign up as well. Unfortunately, we cannot guess it prior to those tests. Hope that helps -Mel

hello just wondering if a 0.01 upload speed and constant ping spikes and constant disconnections are considered acceptable for a fixed wireless connection?Because according to nbn and aussie broadband it isn't a problem at all.Considering its been like this for 2 months. And ive had 3 technicians come to my home and there is no problem at my property.I am on the nbn plus plan at $79 a month.I have called up several times to figure out what's happening,But I get the same reply."As soon as we hear back from nbn we will push your ticket forward".This is a nonsense excuse because I've heard it several times and every time to no avail.I have recorded speed tests since the internet was put on at my property and every test is consistently under 1mbps upload. My next step is to get the tio involved to Actually sort out this problem. Can or is there anyway you may be able to help me?

Hi. Unfortunately, fixed wireless is now considered a best-effort internet service. There are no real guarantees with the service unlike other technology types. Basically, we need to convince nbn that there's tower congestion in your area (getting your neighbours to report it to their isp as well can help). Once congestion is confirmed, then it goes on a waiting list for upgrades. Upgrades have been moving forward very slowly due to COVID restrictions, etc. I recommend to keep persisting with the team, they will break through and get your fault moved forward and I can guarantee that they are doing their best to make that happen. Proving fixed wireless congestion is exceedingly difficult now, unfortunately. Here are some explanations as to why: https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/nbn/plans/fixed-wireless-plus-faq/
And here's what the ACCC recommends: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/internet-landline-services/broadband-speeds/using-nbn-fixed-wireless
Cheers, Mel
Thank you for the reply,It is greatly appreciated.fixed wireless should not be 0.01 upload. The problem is this is only effecting my property. My neighbours have fixed wireless,With Aussie broadband and theres is a consistent speed.Ive done speed tests at there property and they have roughly 9 down and 0.80 up.No drop outs.we live 1.7 km away from the nearest tower. But the biggest problem is,This only started the day upgrades started in my area.My internet ran 10 down and 1.5 up consistently with no drop outs up until the 19 of February then during upgrades my internet would run at 2 down and 0.02 up or nothing at all.then once upgrades were completed for that tower and after having 3 technician come to my property reposition my antenna,Replace modem and I allso bought a new router. Now my internet is worse then ever.I have a speed test for every hour of the day since march 3rd.My best speed is 40 down and 0.84 up that was hardwired directly to the modem as well. That was at 4am for about 1 hour.I spoke to a support member and they said nbn closed the ticket and said "Our property gets 2mbps up which is sufficient"Then says its resolved. Then the same support member from aussie said he will speak to his team leader to see what to do next,He came back and said we will just have to wait for a reply from nbn.I have called several times in regards to this matter and nothing is being done.Yet I'm still paying $79 dollars,Do you think that is suitable? These problems all started when the upgrade started when our first internet provider refused to fix the problem so we moved to Aussie broadband,Now the same thing is happening again.we havent had a minimal connection at all.Fixed wireless or not there is a minimum speed everyone is ment to be getting and a suitable connection stability that is deemed acceptable.Ours is clearly not.I understand that this virus is causing allot of problems for everyone but this started the day the upgrades started. My wife and I allso work from home and we cant do that if our internet isn't working. So I dont know what to do except speak to the tio to help resolve this problem.ive spoken to the support team.at Aussie broadband they say its a nbn problem,I've Spoken to the support team at nbn and they say its an aussie broadband problem. Its almost as if we are sharing an internet connection with someone and they are using all the majority of the internet. So either something is talking crap or no one wants to fix the obvious problem. And the funniest thing of all is Aussie broadband said the same as you..It could be because of congestion.No.My neighbour who during this whole time since February 19 has had an excellent connection that was stable. It is only effecting my property..I did a speed test at 9.25 pm 21 of April 2020 at my property and my neighbours property consecutively. My speed test was 1554 ping 650 jitter 0.02 down and 0.00 up.My neighbours however.34 ping 14 jitter 9.84 down and 0.89 up.Both of us only had a laptop connected to either network. Both of our antennas face toward the same tower and both of us are with Aussie broadband and both of us are using fixed wireless. That is not a congestion problem in my area. And it is not because of peak hour.Even during peak hour with all the extra traffic due the corona virus you are still ment to get some kind of consistent stable speed.Be it only 2 mbps down and 0.80 up.Fixed wireless or no.So my problem is not being regarded as a problem and therefore not being fixed. And if it is because of congestion why is it only effecting my property on my entire block?

Looking at changing providers for my internet. Currently with optus and have wireless nbn. If i swap do i need to do anything ie as in telling optus. What speeds can i expect with your wireless nbn. Cause im currently not too impressed with the wireless nbn network.

Hi Kyle, we understand the problems with Fixed Wireless. I recommend giving our sales team a call on 1300 880 905 and as they are putting in the application, they will be able to see if your tower is listed as congested. It's definitely worth trying another provider for sure as your service may also be moved to a less congested cell during the transfer, although this doesn't always happen. You should contact Optus when your service with your new provider is up and running to prevent any surprise bills later down the road. Cheers, Mel

Hi
Aussie can you confirm if the Archer ax6000 modem will be compatible when I change across from Optus to Aussie .
We have FTTC nbn just installed in our street
also how much difference will the 100/40 vs 100/20 make ?
Thanks Justine
2 answers
Official RepAussie Broadband
Hi Justine, we can't make any guarantees on modems that aren't ours, but our team is happy to try to help you configure it. I'd say as long as it's not locked to another provider, it may work just fine. As for the difference in speed, most people will not notice any difference at all between those speed tiers. It's really only people doing an extensive amount of uploading. Uploading to international servers will be slower as they are affected by other links/servers. So, 100/20 is great for the majority of people. Cheers, Mel
Awesome thanks so much

How can you guarantee upload speeds higher than 80mpbs? My current provider gives me at best 45mpbs.
3 answers
You would need to ask Aussie Broadband that question. Myself, I regularly get 90/30 so quite close to 100/40.
I need to change my service provider. We generally run 3-4 computers at any given time I guess I cannot expect fast speeds
Official RepAussie Broadband
Upload speeds or download speeds? We currently do not have plans with upload speeds over 40Mpbs. We do have download speeds tiers that are much higher with 100Mbps down and for FTTP 250Mbps down. https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/nbn-plans/

All that's on their website.
Everybody has to go to Foxtel direct, in NBN world, who will put you on satellite.
Bigpond movies is a Telstra product.

I recently switched from Optus NBN (was working fine) to Aussie Broadband based on their reviews. I haven't been able to access internet since then. I found out the problem, the MAC address of the HFC device didn't match with their record. It hasn't been fixed yet. NBN appointment was booked multiple times but no avail. They said they booked another appointment but I have never received SMS confirmation although Aussie broadband says it book and they can see it in their system. I am wondering how long does it take to just update the correct device address even after providing them with the correct HFC device address? How can a device address be mismatched? it was working fine before switching service provider.

When moving from Telstra ADSL to Aussie Broadband has anybody managed to time the changeover ( without loosing your existing Phone number ) so you are not being charged for the Two Providers at the same time?
A Month's notice for Telstra required & 3 to 30 days to install Broadband first up.

Hi Glen, is your home phone bundled with your internet? Cheers, Mel
Currently Landline & ADSL are bundled together.
Official RepAussie Broadband
I've checked with our service delivery manager and this should be fine now because we start the phone porting in line with the nbn appointment and it should go smoothly. If it doesn't go smoothly, it's usually a case where the nbn appointment has been pushed back and the port has completed. We can do a call diversion if that happens so you still get calls. If the unforeseen happens, and you somehow lose the number during the port, then it's usually just a matter of getting Telstra to reinstate the number and porting it again. I recommend not disconnecting any services with Telstra until everything's up and working with us. You may have some overlap, but this way it gives you continuous internet and phone until the changeover date. The phone number needs to remain active during the porting. I know that's not quite what you want, but it will give you the best chance for a smooth transition in case nbn push back the installation.

I am on ADSL now & the NBN is in my area as of this week. My computer is on one side of the timber house & the smart TV on the other. This would be 8 mt. I hope to stream sports . Will the distance be a problem? I have looked at suggested house configurations but none really apply. I do not have WiFi at present . What approach should I take?
4 answers
Hey mate is there cables in already for the setup or is it not wired up? Wifi would be one way to go, but if there's a few walls between each device you may find the wife might get a bit unstable over distance, I'd recommend wired but if you can get away with wireless go for it has always been my experience
Thanks for the reply.
ADSL now so phone lines to connect & not connected as yet to Broadband.
When I get Broadband 8 mt distance will be too much for cables so hoping WiFi will work satisfactorily through Timber walls ( not brick ) .
I'm hoping to stream HD sports from Computer or Smart TV app. I guess I will find out if buffering is a problem when it's set up. Just trying to make informed choices before then.
Official RepAussie Broadband
Hi Glen, if you're concerned about WiFi reaching that far, then I recommend looking into our Google router/mesh setup. Your particular set up will depend on what service type you are getting as FTTN will still require a modem as well, but it's worth checking into. The way the google router works is it can come bundled with mesh points that can be placed around the home to strengthen the WiFi all the way through to prevent buffering. I have it in my home and it works very well. If you have any further questions or location specific questions, you can call our sales team or go to our website and ask them on live chat at www.aussiebroadband.com.au Cheers, Mel

Hello,
I have a Fritzbox 7490 and HFC in the street.
I have a new Uniden VOIP phone which works well with my current ADSL system.
An Isp ( to remain nameless ) some time ago said if i have HFC in the street, the Fritzbox7490 will not work with HFC in the street.
Is this the case? its the only thing slowing up my decision to go to your NBN plan.

I worded my question wrongly. He said the voip will not work with HFC and Fritzbox 7490
Official RepAussie Broadband
Hi Colin, I think the Fritzboxes can be a bit of a headache to set up. I don't see why VoIP wouldn't work, but if this is a modem from another provider then it could be locked to the other provider. As for configuring it for HFC, it is possible even though it doesn't have the usual WAN port for the ethernet. You'd plug the ethernet into a LAN port. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2786648 I'm not able to give any guarantees that voip would work with our service unfortunately. Cheers, Mel
