Can any prospective, current or past customers of MJH please provide some details about how MJH requests them to complete a review on this forum, and what instructions are provided about completing the review? including its content? Also, is any incentive offered by MJH, by this forum, or anyone else to submit a review.

Peter I think you will find most businesses today ask what your experience has been and would you like to write about it on their Facebook page or Product Review. In terms of rewarding their staff I have no evidence of this but if it were my business and people were publically reporting about how well my staff had performed I certainly would want to reward that employee . An employee is your business and as consumers isnt that is what we want . I have built with this builder and was asked at a number of stages through the build journey if i were happy or unhappy and that they had no issue with me sharing my experience on any social platform.... even suggesting photos etc . And if they reward their staff for good work, good on them is what I say! lets encourage more businesses to look after their staff ... luckily we live in a good free healthy society that promotes this .

An interesting view Steve.
Firstly in the fact you say you’re a previous client and just happen to be hanging out on product review to see this question, yet no review left by you. Just this one answer which you also liked yourself.
Secondly there was no mention of employees being rewarded, but you find it necessary to defend them.
The question is worded quite clearly and you have failed to address the root.

Steve

Sorry James I cant help you re addressing the root . I am an interested Product Review observer but not a contributor. My first contribution is above . I have a PR link that follows a few builders as we are possibly back in the market to build again . My wife is a contributer, as she did when we originally built with McDonald Jones . In terms of defending employees why wouldnt I. Isn't that who most of us are in life. Shouldnt they be defended and acknowledged . Its a sad position if you support the alternate

I just wanted to ask should we decide on proceeding with you as a builder, do.you allow independent building inspectors selected by us as client to check all stages of the build.

Hi RegL - Yes, we do allow independent building inspectors. Inspections should only occur after all works are completed at each stage. Once the inspection is completed we ask that the full report be forwarded to us, rather than supervisor meeting with the inspector on site. Kind regards.

I would also like to know the answer to this, I will definitely be using an inspector during the build.

According to your portal, on line information, we have been enjoying our new home since handover on 24th May 2022. Information from you portal....
‘24 May 2022
Milestone: Handover.
22 Mar 2022
New document Practical Completion Guide.pdf was added.
21 Mar 2022
Milestone: House and Site Clean’
None of this has happened. Can’t understand where you have got your information to put this in print. We are still waiting for our house to be cleaned, our appliances to be installed. Our final payment has been made as requested by you MACDONALD JONES HOMES and told that when that payment was made that the appliances would be installed. Well, as of today 7am, 28th May 2022 we have no appliances, no clean house or site and definitely no keys or access to our ‘dream’ house, as stated by your company ................
“Congratulations keys to your brand new home, ready for you to create cherished memories in. This is when your journey really begins.”
That is nothing but a pack of lies. Here are some of the things that we have been told....... We were told at PCI which was 18th March 2022 that we would be in the house in 2 weeks, defect period would start in 4 weeks, well that didn’t happened and was told, that was our fault, because house was handed back to us to complete a layback which was to be completed for occupation certificate, but, that wasn’t going to stop any completion work identified at PCI, as expressed to us by the site supervisor. That didn’t happen. Upon another inspection we were told.... pay your final payment and the completion work will be completed. We paid our final payment a week ago still waiting for appliances.....We understand that appliances are the last thing installed and house cleaned. Still waiting for both. It is now over 50 yes fifty WORKING DAYS since PCI. So the BIG question is...when do the appliances get installed and the site/dream home get cleaned??????? Next question When do we get to actually and really live in our ‘dream’ home.
Just for your information. Our original completion date was September 2018, then a revised date of April 2022 now we are in May 2022 heading to June 2022. An answer today would be appreciated, our job number is 604421

I am doing a tender with McDonald Jones. But currently holding the consolidated tender because of other builder's unethical and unprofessional act. The other builder with its office at Spring Farm is building a house on my neighbour's lot and during their build they are illegally using my land. Both the builder and owner did not contact me for the use of my land. Without any permission from me, they used my land to deposit a huge pile of soil, mix the concrete, drive and park their vehicle, put a building fence halfway through my property. They increased slope of my land to level it with their block affecting the original gradient of my land. Upon speaking with the Site manager, he advised that he did it to save the unnecessary cost to their customer as their customer's land was sloped. He initially assured me by email that they would return my land to original state. They removed the the building fence and partially removed the spoil from my land, but deposited and spread out huge soil on my land to bring it to the level of their customer. The builder is now not receiving my calls, not responding to my emails and message.
The other builder did not care about the neighbour's property. They illegally used and damaged someone's property for their own benefits. They tried to save their own cost but did not think about the negative impact and additional cost to their neighbor.
I have reported this to council, but council advised me to resolve this internally or go to local court. Council is not helping much, about which the builder is very much aware as he said to me "Council does nothing". Thats why the builder is trying to take the advantage of this. The builder is completely negligent as the site manager thinks this is normal in building industry to use someone's property. In my case, the builder not only illegally used the property, but also damaged my property as the slope of land and contour has been completely affected because of the excess spoil being deposited on my land to make the same level to their customer.

Is there any legal process to action against the builder for illegal use and damage of property or I have to go to local court as advised by council? Is there any builders forum where I can report about this builder? My build is delayed and affected because of this builder's negligence and I am mentally stressed.

McDonald J.McDonald Jones Homes

Hi Kenneth, thank you for your question, as we know the digital world is changing and people are researching more and more online to gain more information before they make a purchase and our customers now recognise this also. A home is the biggest investment anyone makes and we understand the importance of this as do our customers. We have many customers repeating their building experience with us because they were so happy with their home and their experience, therefore we have asked them to share their stories to help others, even if it is a negative experience, with NO incentive offered to them by our company. We don’t hide from our reviews, we encourage them to help other deciding to build with us. If we do receive a negative review, we action this as soon as we can to assist our customers, in the same way we would action this if we are advised of concerns by other mediums, like email or face to face, because we want our customers to have a great experience and to love their home, just as much as we love building it for them.

If you would like to contact us to discuss your concerns further please feel free to private message us or email us at [email protected] with your contact details so we can chat with you further, we can even arrange for you to chat with other customers also if that helps you, we look forward to hearing from you soon. Has anyone had experience with the upgrade luxury package and is it worth it?

A sales person told us recently if we purchase the house we like we get this package included and its worth up to $50,000. I later read we pay about $12,000 for the upgrade.

A clear table comparing the cost of stand items to the luxury items woul clarify the above.

We were also told the alfresco area would be included in the deal even though it said optional on the plan. I doubting this would be built for free.

We are sitting on the fence to purchase a Mcdonald Jones property but if we feel we are being lied too we will walk.

This is a new package that they've introduced recently. The one before this was really different. It's worth paying the money for the package. We signed in June and are glad we got the upgrade package.

With the alfresco we got ours during a 'free alfresco' promotion. Get them to put it all in an estimate where it is written on paper with all costs. Then they can't jerk you around. An estimate is free and you are not locked in. All sales staff with every builder are misleading - it's their job to get you to buy. We went through three builders before we settled on MJH but have had estimates etc from well over 15 builders. Its all the same crap everywhere unfortunately.

Scott

McDonald Jones Homes

Are the luxury upgrade packages worth it? During consultation the sales pitch is sold as you get this for free along with the alfresco area but when you read in to it your still paying close to $12,000 for the package. It sounds like your getting $50,000 worth of items for free. However im assuming the basic items would still cost a fair bit! Has anyone had experience with this.

Maybe a clear table of the items included in in the luxury package compared to the standard items would clarify the above.

I have I question I would like cleared up. We are currently looking at building in Gillieston Heights NSW and have a question regarding the fixed price tender. As the land we are looking at building on is currently not registered the expected building completion time is approximately two years from now. Does this mean we will have to pay an additional $18,000.00 to extend the tender fixed price to the two year completion date? Please could someone advise!

2 answers
McDonald Jones Homes
McDonald J.McDonald Jones Homes

Hi Garrick, thank you for your question, we have outlined the detail around this below to help assist you, however please feel free to discuss this more with our Building and Design Consultants.

Essentially it is only the pre-construction period that you need to try to fix your tender price in for. From the registration of your land we require approx. 3 to 4 months to obtain all the necessary approvals through the Authorities before they start building. If that date can be assessed and advised, we will fix your tender price for that agreed period. The cost will be determined considering increases in trade and materials over that period and will be nominated as a cost in your tender document. Once all Authority approvals are given this agreed price is locked in for the term of construction. We hope this information has been helpful for you. kind regards

Peter
Peter

Our McDonald Jones Sales Consultant offerred a 185 day extension to the tender period at no charge this allowed a full 12mths for registration of the land which was not registered at the time of tender. I believe that the builder would include an additional cost in your tender to cover to cover CPI increases on materials amd labour. This would be applicable across all builders. Always check with your Consultant and have the pricing clarified before you accept any tender.
