Excellent Pre Construction Planning and Advice

Good at Sales but poor customer service
I am building a property with Metricon in Northern Beaches.
Here is some facts:
I am happy with the Sales stage, useful discussion and suggestions.
However, after the variation and selection phase, the paperwork quality is so bad.
Duplicate items in the amended contract which will overcharge customer for more than $10K. I have to spend so much time go through it by myself. If you charge customer $2K to change a selection how much you will pay me to fix this kind of mistake?

Great Site Supervisors
Through our build we have had a few site supervisors, whom have all been great in their own capacity. Handover never seemed to be an issue. Particularly in the latter half of the build [name removed] was assigned to us and his workmanship, trades coordination, energy and drive to get the build completed in a timely, yet high degree of quality has been highly appreciated. [name removed] is also very inclusive in dealing with myself and my wife. If there's anything unclear we can be sure [name removed] will be on the phone to us in no time at all. We're not far away from the finished product, and the house is looking exceptional!!

Good builder and Reliable company, but there still something you want to be careful with.
I had my property to be rebuilt with Metricon from last June. We moved in about 12 month later. There is a bit of delay but it is always the case, which is pretty normal with every single project building company.
Our site manager was [Name Removed] and I do think that I was lucky to have him since he is very reliable and responsible. Communication was never an issue and he does listen to you. It really depends on who you get. My friend had house built with Metricon and he had 3 different managers along the track, which became a absolute night...Read more
mare One thing I am happy with is their QA team. They had at least 4 inspections before handover and they were very very strict about the finishes. Overall, I am happy with the house by now, we have moved in for a month and everything is ok. However, if you are thinking about choosing Metricon, there are still a few things that you need to consider before you finalize the contract. 1: The standard kitchen appliances are from a brand called TECHNIKA, they are absolutely a trash maker. Range hood repaired twice within my first month already. However, Metricon kitchen upgrades are too expensive. So you might just put up with TECHNIKA or spend the money to upgrade.1 comment

Very poor customer services, in fact, No service at all for last 6 months
I am building a property with Metricon in Boxhill i have agreed to sign up with a condition that they will provide me with a variation as an alteration in structure and i have signed up because of that and now they built the property without that alteration. ven happy the way Metricon provide the services and beside that all the site manager were sharing a 5 mins conversation about what they were working on. My property was supposed to be delivered end of may but they are holding me hostage on my requirement they cant meet and i am not getting the property on hand until they deliver what i have signed up for. I have no choice of not talking to fairtrade or NCAT on this. It's so frustrating that they literally stopped communicating with me and all the email says someone will get back to me and no one did. I will be sharing this to other so people will see what sort of impact they are causing to the community from their action. First Impressions
It's all thanks to [name removed] we now have officially started our journey towards our brand new home! He is very patient with our questions and even helped us when we were doing the comparison of the quotes and inclusions from other builders.

Wouldn't build with Metricon
This is not a bashing of Metricon, just what we experienced. My wife and I were comparing Metricon vs MacJones, and it ended up being a very easy decision. We delt with the sales consultants at Thornton Metricon. Here are the reasons why we did not build with Metricon.
- Failed to correctly assess council requirements
- After paying a deposit to receive soil tests and survey the land, we were guarenteed answers within 30 days as part of the contract, they failed this.
- Surveyed tests were incorrect.

Great Site Supervisor makes the home building project stress free
We started our engagement with a good sales lady from Metricon that helped us do the estimations. She was so good that at the end of the build, the costs was more or less stick to her estimation, except for those that we decided to upgrade at the later stage. She forewarned us that the site costs would be a considerable amount of the total build which we did not get surprised at the end.

, my home building project had taken off very smoothly. He is so transparent, helpful and proactive. I let him did most of the worries so I didn't have to stress during the last 6 months of the building of our two storey dream home. We learnt a lot from our SS during the project. We saw him fixing our home like his own. There were issues that we couldn't see but he patiently explained to us how important they were and have fixed them without our independent inspector picking most of them. My SS also proactively and regularly called me to discuss progress. He always attend to our calls and needs promptly. One more amazing thing, everyone told me how bad it was after handover from any builders. But my SS still attends to my phone calls, helping me to resolve issues when I needed him! I would put my two thumbs up for his professionalism, customer first services. We are so lucky to have him for our home building project. Likewise, Metricon should be proud of having such an outstanding site supervisor.1 comment

Love my new home!
My site manager was absolutely wonderful and managed the process with admirable efficiency and calmness. I am very happy with the finished product and the way in which the financial transfers were handled. I felt that I knew what was happening at all stages and there were no unforeseen blow outs in cost. My only issue is that I would have felt more secure with a definite handover date to coordinate ending a lease and organising a removalist.

DO NOT BUILD. Five stars for worst communication and attitude.
I have built 4 times. Zero issues with first 3 builders. This is the 1st AND LAST with Metricon.
Basic finishes are amateur and any half-decent upgrade is 2-3x market price. Handover has dragged for 3+ months and is still stalled. 3+ months past contract finish date.
Site manager had no idea tiles are cracked/ wrong color and calls an hour before handover that it's delayed for x/ y/ z reason. For 3 months. Several other issues raised and for 3 months he kept saying he would rectify them. He has not.

We apologise if your experience with Metricon has not met expectations. In regards to the lavatory, we are very sorry for the disturbance caused and confirm a final clean has been done. Please be assured our Construction Management have held a discussion with the relevant Trades to ensure they are adhering to on-site requirements. We are sorry if you feel there has been a lapse in communication, yet, confirm your Site Manager & Construction Manager have made regular contact throughout the construction of your home. In relations to the tiles, we were aware that two tiles to the kitchen splashback required replacement due to a manufacturing blemish. These were originally replaced but were a different shade. Our supplier immediately changed this to the correct shade. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused you. We confirm the items raised to the Site Manager after Practical Completion have been completed. The photos confirming this have been provided to you and understand settlement took place earlier this week. As outlined in the HIA contract, liquidated damages will be paid if the construction exceeds the agreed timeframe. Unprofessional. Great house, worst customer service ever
Great house and site supervisor, but every interaction we have had with head office has been a disaster. When they had almost finished they told us that the carpet we chose was discontinued, then our second selection ‘fell off a shipping container’, so we had to pay more to upgrade. AC was put in non compliant location and now they won’t even talk to us. We gave them an opportunity to resolve via this website and they have gone for 9 days with no response. Also just discovered most of our ceiling insulation has been left in bags in the ceilings rather than laid out. Appalling.

We understand our Service and Warranty Team Leader was in contact who communicated that these matters were being reviewed. We acknowledge the insulation was not installed at the time of construction, an error and oversight from our end. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. We confirm the trade was scheduled to attend the property yesterday to install this. In relations to the AC, the location of the unit was a specific request from yourself, although, we made it quite clear, in writing, that the location was non-compliant and would be the responsibility of the owner to address further when required. As a gesture of goodwill, we have agreed to assist in the relocation of the unit at no cost to you. Should you require anything further, please contact your Warranty Coordinator who is in the best position to assist. Thank you for allowing us to review and clarify these items. RegardsCorrect - we had been told it was being reviewed. And then waited almost two weeks without a response. Hence the escalation.

The above is an oversimplification of the AC situation. It was our request that Metricon leave the AC where they had originally located it, rather than moving it at Metricon’s request to a location which would involve changing our house plans and place it in the center of our entertaining area. So yes, our request to leave it. And the offer was made to relocate it, but then we could not get in contact with Metricon for weeks to organize it. I have emailed the above and called the general line many times and left messages as there is no direct line to Service and Warranty Department.
No one got back to me.
I ended up getting a plumber yesterday and spent $340 to get the toilet fixed which I am not happy about.
I also included in my email to Service and Warranty Department that none of my doors are locking - a gust of wind will open all doors including bathroom doors! I have a few other issues as well that I had included in the email to Service and Warranty.

My house will be finished within one month, and I would like to know more about toxic air in the new house.
How to dissipate the toxic air, e.g. formaldehyde? and how long would it take?

Hi Ben,
Thank you for your recent question to Metricon. Formaldehyde does not persist for long in the environment. When it is present in the air, most of it degrades to molecular hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Should it be a concern, we suggest opening up the doors and windows which will help to lower levels in the home.
